RentMate is a small, independent company. One founder. NZ-first. Plumbing, electrical, and building work registered in NZ deserves a platform that understands the rules, not a US import bolted onto a directory listing.

Will Scalioni

Field engineer at Databricks by day, Auckland landlord by frustration. Built RentMate after watching a hot water cylinder leak sit in a 14-email thread for nine days. The third quote came in by SMS, written on a napkin. There had to be a better way that didn't take a cut.

Background in distributed systems, data platforms, and identity. NZ resident since 2018, lives in Kumeu, Auckland. Reachable via the contact page.

What we are

What we aren't
  • A property management system. We integrate, we don't replace.
  • An invoicing platform. The tradie invoices the landlord directly.
  • A directory of cheap tradies. We verify scope and back the audit trail.
  • A lead-gen funnel. There is no premium tier that sits behind a paywall.
How we work

Four principles.

Be useful before being clever.

Maintenance is not a place for surprise features. We ship the boring stuff (RLS, audit log, breach runbook, GST treatment) before we ship anything novel.

Don't sit in the money.

RentMate makes its money from subscriptions. The tradie invoices the landlord directly. We never sit between you and the cash, take a percentage, or hold funds in escrow.

Build for New Zealand first.

RTA s.48, PGDB / EWRB / LBP, Privacy Act 2020, NZD with GST. These are not international concerns. Building them in from day one is cheaper than retrofitting an American import.

Treat tenants as users, not exhaust.

Tenants get a magic link, an inbox, a clear status. No marketing emails, no upsell. They are the most important user on the platform — without them, no ticket gets filed.

  1. 2026-03 First commit. Schema and RLS posture set.
  2. 2026-04 Closed pilot opens in Auckland (Onehunga, Mt Eden, Glen Innes).
  3. 2026-05 AWS deploy (Sydney). Pacific identity. Transactional email via Resend.
